The Dry Season (November to May)
This is universally considered the best time to visit Senegal. The weather is dry, relatively cool (especially from December to February), and the skies are clear. Average coastal temperatures hover around a pleasant 23°C to 28°C (73°F - 82°F) during the day, making it perfect for exploring Dakar, Gorée, and relaxing on the Petite Côte.
- Pros: Ideal temperatures, very little rain, less humidity, fewer mosquitoes.
- Cons: Peak tourist season means higher prices and more people. Also, the Harmattan wind can sometimes bring dust from the Sahara.
The Rainy Season / Hivernage (June to October)
Locally known as the 'hivernage', the rainy season is characterized by high heat, intense humidity, and periodic heavy downpours, mostly between July and September. Temperatures can soar well over 30°C (86°F), feeling much hotter due to the humidity.
- Pros: The landscapes transform drastically; everything becomes lush and green. It is a beautiful time to see the Casamance and Sine-Saloum if you don't mind the heat. Fewer tourists.
- Cons: Heat and humidity can be draining. Heavy rains can flood roads, especially in Dakar. Mosquitoes are much more prevalent.
