Keur Moussa Monastery Mass + Lac Rose — Sunday from Dakar

Culture

On Sunday mornings, Benedictine monks sing mass with koras and balafons in a monastery tucked away in the Senegalese bush. It's the kind of beautiful that gives you goosebumps — and it doesn't exist anywhere else. After this timeless moment, we head to Lac Rose for an afternoon of discovery. Spirituality in the morning, nature in the afternoon: the perfect Sunday in Senegal.

What to expect

We pick you up early from your hotel (45-minute drive). Arrival at Keur Moussa Monastery, founded by monks from the Abbey of Solesmes in France. The Sunday mass (10 AM) is world-famous: liturgical chants accompanied by koras, balafons and African percussion. Believer or not, it's a moment that stays with you. After mass, stop at the shop: the monks make their own goat cheeses and jams (excellent). Drive to Lac Rose. Lunch at Restaurant Chez Salim. Lake tour, Peul village visit, salt harvesters.
